FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT FIRST READING

“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.” Therefore Israel will be abandoned until the time when she who is in labor gives birth and the rest of his brothers return to join the Israelites. He will stand and shepherd his flock in the strength of the Lord in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God. And they will live securely, for then his greatness will reach to the ends of the earth. And he will be their peace.

Micah 5:2-5

THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT GOSPEL READING

John said to the crowds coming out to be baptized by him, “You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath? Produce fruit in keeping with repentence. And do not begin to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham. The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.” “What should we do then?” the crowd asked. John answered, “The man with tunics should share with him who has none, and the one who has food should do the same.”Tax collectors also came to be baptized. “Teacher,” they asked, “what should we do?” “Don’t collect any more than you are required to,” he told them. Then some soldiers asked him, “And what should we do?” He replied, “Don’t extort money and dont accuse people falsely — be content with your pay.” The people were waiting expectantly and were all wondering in their hearts if John answered them all, “I baptize you with water. But one more powerful than I will come,  the thongs of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the  Holy Spirit and with fire. His winnowing fork is in his hand to clear his threshing floor and to gather the wheat into his barn but he will burn up the chaff with the unquenchable fire.” Andwith many other words John exhorted the people and preached the good news to them.

Luke 3:7-18

THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT SECOND READING PART 2

Rejoice in the Lord always, I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, be prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Phillipians 4:4-7

Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord, the Lord, is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation. ” With joyyou will draw water from the wells of salvation. In that day you will say: “Give thanks to the Lord, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done, and proclaim that his name is exalted. Sing to the Lord, for he has done glorious hings; let this be known to all the world. Shout aloud and sing for joy, people of Zion, for great is the Holy One of Israel among you.

Isaiah 12:2-6

THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT FIRST READING

Sing, O daughter of Zion; shout aloud, O Israel!Be glad and rejoice with all your heart, O Daughter of Jerusalem! The Lord has taken away your punishment, he has turned back your enemy. The Lord the King of Israel, is with you; never again will you fear any harm. On that day they will say to Jerusalem, “Do not fear, O Zion; do not let your hands hang limp. The Lord your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.” “The sorrows for the appointed feasts I will remove from you;they are a burden and a reproach to you. At that time I will deal with all who oppressed you; I will rescue the lame and gather those who have been scattered. I will give them praise and honor in every land where they wre put to shame. At that time I will gather you; at that time I will bring you home. I will give you honor and praise among all the peoples of the earth when I restore your fortunes before your very eyes,” says the Lord.

BLUE CHRISTMAS SERVICE 3PM DECEMBER 24TH

The Blue Christmas Service is a special service offered every year in the early afternoon of Christmas Eve. It is not like the traditional candlelight services held in the evenings. The Blue Christmas service acknowledges the complexity of emotions connected to Christmas. Emotions of disappointment, loss, illness, and so much more. The Blue Christmas Service also holds on deeply to the promises of God born into the world as an innocent baby to be with us always. Please join us for a special Christmas service this year. All are welcome and all will come away deeply moved and thankful for attending the service.

5TH SUNDAY COAT DONATION UPDATE

Thank you again for the wonderful coats donated during our September 5th Sunday donation. Through your generous donations we were able to bless Bloomin’ Boutique, SnowCap, and Human Solutions Holiday Store with coats for children of all ages. Pastor Jen and Toby had the great honor of delivering roughly 20 coats to Bloomin’ Boutique, a non-profit serving Clackamas, Multnomah, and Washington counties. It was amazing to hear the ministry happening through this non-profit and the enthusiasm of the director. Children of all ages come with an adult advocate and they are able to select the toiletries and clothing that they need. Your generous donations will make a positive difference in the lives of children throughout our region.
